1974 Porsche 914 2.0 five-speed in Ravenna Green, early bidding on Hagerty
Fuel-injected 2.0 914 with fresh gearbox and fuel/brake lines; bid is early and will climb.
Why we picked it
This is the 2.0-liter fuel-injected 914, the one most people want, with a five-speed the seller says was rebuilt in September 2024. Recent work listed includes a new fuel pump, starter, battery, stainless fuel and brake lines and Bilstein shocks, and it has a clean Illinois title in the seller's name. The paint is a factory Ravenna Green refinish done before the current owner bought it in 2022.
At $6,000 with more than a week left, the bid sits far below the mid-$20k range that driver 914s have been bringing. Bids usually climb hard in the last day, so treat this as one to watch, not a done deal. Set a ceiling based on what the rust photos show.
The value check
The current bid is $6,000. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $25,000–$31,000, so the middle of the market is about $28,000. That put this car 79% under. Bids usually climb in the final hours, so the discount will likely shrink.
Recent sold 1974 914s on classic.com run about $25,250 (Aug 2025) to $31,000 for a Limited Edition (Aug 2025). The current $6,000 bid plus Hagerty's buyer fee is about 78% under the $28,000 midpoint, but this auction has more than a week to run.
What to check
- Check the battery tray area (the hell hole), longitudinals, jack points and floor pans; the listing does not describe a rust inspection of these
- Odometer is inoperative, so true mileage is unknown
- Seller says ignition timing needs adjustment and the key barrel is dead (push-button start fitted)
- Listing does not say whether the 2.0 engine is original to the car; ask for engine number
- Reserve status not shown; add Hagerty's buyer fee to your bid ceiling
Making it drive like new
A 914 2.0 takes well to sensible updates: a fresh fuel-injection harness or a well-sorted Weber conversion, a 911-style brake upgrade, polybushings and stiffer torsion bars, plus chassis stiffening around the longitudinals. Many owners also add a modern electronic ignition (already fitted here) and LED lighting while keeping the stock look.
