What you get. A good pullout includes the engine and transmission with the truck's engine harness and PCM, and usually the alternator, A/C compressor, power steering pump and starter. Drive-by-wire trucks should also come with the gas pedal and throttle control module.
Watch out for. The PCM carries GM's VATS anti-theft and must be reflashed or tuned before the engine will run outside the truck. The deep front-sump truck oil pan, tall truck intake and wide truck accessory drive usually have to be swapped for car-style or swap-specific parts to fit a classic. These engines are cheap because most have high mileage, so do a compression or leak-down test before you buy.
Best for. Budget LS swaps into almost anything, from A-body Chevelles and C10 trucks to Tri-Fives and Novas, especially where cost matters more than peak power.
