1966 Volvo 1800S with overdrive and A/C, 28 years in one family
Long-held 1800S with M41 overdrive, rebuilt B18 and A/C; very early bid, expect a lot more.
Why we picked it
This is a Swedish-built 1800S with the B18, M41 four-speed with overdrive and air conditioning, owned by one family for about 28 years. The seller lists a rebuilt engine, a Lotus Green repaint and tan interior from a refurbishment about 25 years ago, and recent brakes, shocks, clutch, water and oil pumps, alternator and tires. It has a clean Pennsylvania title.
With 10 days left, the $2,400 bid means very little yet, and bids usually climb. It earns a spot because drivers like this have been selling around $20,000 to $30,000, so even a strong finish could leave room.
The value check
The current bid is $2,400. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $19,500–$30,000, so the middle of the market is about $24,750. That put this car 90% under. Bids usually climb in the final hours, so the discount will likely shrink.
Classic.com lists 1966 1800S sales of $19,550 (Aug 2025, modified) and $22,000 (Jan 2025), with older 2024 results near $30,000 and a 1800S benchmark of $36,828. The $2,400 bid plus buyer fee is about 90% under the $24,750 midpoint, with 10 days left.
What to check
- 1800 rust spots: sills, floor pans, front fender bottoms, headlight buckets, trunk floor and the rear valance
- Refurbishment is about 25 years old; check paint for bubbling and the interior for wear (seller notes dash veneer checking and rippling surfaces)
- Back seat has been replaced with a parcel shelf; check if the original seat comes with it
- Spec sheet says 1.7L but the description says 1,778cc; confirm the engine and its rebuild records
- Reserve status not shown; add Hagerty's buyer fee to your ceiling
Making it drive like new
Good 1800 updates include a B20 or B230 swap or a mild B18 build with electronic ignition, a Volvo-style brake upgrade with a modern booster, polyurethane bushings, uprated springs and dampers, and a five-speed or a refreshed overdrive. The A/C system should be checked and likely converted to a modern refrigerant.
