1965 Porsche 356C coupe, 912-engined driver with four-wheel discs, no reserve
356C coupe with an engine swap and disc brakes, no reserve, three weeks out with an opening bid.
Sold Why we picked it
This 1965 356C coupe (chassis 220191) is Lot 1 in the same Thoroughbred Motorsports Collection sale on Hagerty Marketplace. It has a clean Pennsylvania title and is offered without reserve. The engine is a 912-sourced 1.6-liter flat-four the listing rates at about 100 hp, with a 4-speed manual and the 356C's four-wheel disc brakes. The seller says the calipers were rebuilt and the shifter bushings replaced to prepare it for sale. It also has a deluxe wheel, rear luggage rack and the tool kit.
The original engine is not with the car, which keeps it out of collector territory but makes it a sensible base for a driver or a mild outlaw build. The bid is $10,000 with four bids and three weeks to go, so expect it to climb a long way. The listing does not clearly say the car runs and notes that not every flaw in the collection could be found.
The value check
When we found it, the bid was $44,250. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $55,500–$67,500, so the middle of the market is about $61,500. That put this car 28% under.
1965 356C coupes, mostly modified or driver grade, sold for $55,500 to $67,500 on BaT and at Mecum in August and September 2026. This car has a non-original 912 engine, so it is valued against those, not against matching-numbers cars. The $10,000 bid is an early no-reserve bid.

What to check
- Confirm the car runs and drives before bidding; the listing only mentions brake and shifter work
- 356 rust hides in the floor pans, longitudinals, jack spurs, battery box, nose and door bottoms, often under undercoating
- Get a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and check the 912 engine case number and condition
- Check panel gaps on the doors, hood and decklid for old accident repair
- Mileage is TMU; sold as-is from a large collection, so inspect in Savannah or arrange an inspection
Making it drive like new
With the original engine gone, a light outlaw approach fits: a rebuilt 912 or 1720-1800cc engine with electronic ignition, a 12-volt conversion, a front anti-roll bar upgrade, adjustable rear spring plates, Koni shocks and three-point belts. Keep the C-model disc brakes and the stock body look.
How it ended
It sold for $60,455 on Oct 28, 2026, against a market value of about $61,500 when we found it.
