Why we picked it

This is a two-owner 1984 FJ60 with the 4.2-liter 2F six, 4-speed manual and two-speed transfer case, offered at no reserve on Hagerty Marketplace with a clean Colorado title in the seller's name. The seller says it is largely original, with replacement body panels and a repaint about three years ago, newer upholstery, and recent trunnion, sway bar, switch and belt work. It wears a 2-inch Old Man Emu lift, heavy-duty bumpers, a winch and a roof rack, and the original bumpers and wheels come with it.

The current bid is only $1,000 with the auction running to November 6, so expect bidding to rise a lot before the end. Comparable running 4-speed FJ60 drivers have sold for about $19,000 to $30,000 this year, so even a final price well above today's bid could still land under the market for a titled, running truck with this much recent work.

The value check

The current bid is $4,200. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $19,000–$30,000, so the middle of the market is about $24,500. That put this car 83% under. Bids usually climb in the final hours, so the discount will likely shrink.

Running, titled 4-speed FJ60 drivers with mileage in the 100k-250k range have sold for roughly $19,000 to $30,000 on Bring a Trailer and Cars & Bids in 2026; cleaner low-mile trucks bring $35,000-$66,000 and were left out of the range.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Bids usually climb sharply in the final day; today's $1,000 is not the likely sale price
  • Seller notes undercarriage corrosion; inspect frame rails, rear crossmember, floors, rocker panels and the lower tailgate and quarter panels
  • Replacement body panels and repaint: ask what was replaced and why, and check for filler
  • CARFAX lists a minor 1988 accident and minor damage in 2020, plus a reporting gap
  • A/C does not blow cold, rear wiper is inoperable and dome light cover is missing
  • Listing references work 'performed in 2026'; confirm dates and receipts with the seller

Making it drive like new

An FJ60 is a natural base for a modern overland build: a fuel-injected 2F/3F swap or an LS or 1FZ conversion, a 5-speed (H55F) or modern overdrive automatic, disc-brake upgrades and a proper alternator and wiring refresh make it far easier to live with, while the existing OME suspension is a good start.
