Sold Why we picked it
Why we picked it: this is a 4x4 F-150 (VIN F14SRAG4482) in Ranger XLT trim with a 400 V8 and automatic, in Silver and Dark Jade Metallic. The seller says it starts right up and runs smoothly, and lists stainless fuel and brake lines, new shocks and steering parts, a rebuilt carburetor, Vintage Air A/C, a reupholstered interior and new 33-inch BFGoodrich tires. It comes with a clean Massachusetts title.
The current bid of $6,250 is about 64 percent under the $14,250 to $20,000 that similar Ranger 4x4 drivers have sold for this year. The auction runs until October 23 and bids usually climb near the end, so treat today's number as a starting point. Set your limit using the comps rather than the current bid.
The value check
When we found it, the bid was $12,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $14,250–$20,000, so the middle of the market is about $17,125. That put this car 27% under.
Three 1977-79 F-150 Ranger 4x4 drivers sold on BaT between May and July 2026 for $14,250 to $20,000, midpoint $17,125. Restored and low-mile trucks that sold for $30,000 to $63,000 were left out.

What to check
- Hagerty lists body and bed floor corrosion, surface rust on the lower panels and older bodywork over both wheel wells; check the cab corners, rocker panels, floor pans and the front fender lowers, which rust on 1973-79 Fords.
- The oil pan and transfer case seep oil, according to the listing.
- Mileage of 32,900 is listed as true miles unknown.
- The listing does not say whether there is a reserve.
- Confirm whether the transfer case is the NP205 gear-drive or the chain-drive NP203 full-time unit, since that changes how you will upgrade it.
Making it drive like new
With the brake lines, steering and A/C already done, start with a disc brake and booster refresh, then add a 4-speed overdrive (ZF5 manual or an E4OD/4R100 automatic swap) to make the 400 easier to live with on the highway. Electronic ignition and a modern EFI throttle body help cold starts. Fix the rust properly with replacement cab corners and rockers before any paint, or keep the patina and clear-coat it.
