Why we picked it

A private seller in Madison, Alabama, lists this 1967 Corvette Sting Ray convertible in red over black at $55,000 with a Make An Offer option. The listing describes the 327 V8 rated at 350 horsepower, a four-speed manual, power steering and air conditioning, and 113,000 miles. The seller says the numbers match except for the front end, which was replaced with aftermarket fiberglass after an accident in the late 1980s, and calls the paint fair.

Why we picked it: 1967 is the most wanted C2 year, and 327/350 four-speed convertibles in driver condition have sold for about $72,000 to $75,000 over the past 18 months, even with non-original engines. This one asks $55,000. The replaced front clip and tired paint explain part of the discount, but it still leaves room for a sorted, honest driver or a good restomod base.

The value check

The seller is asking $55,000. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $68,000–$80,000, so the middle of the market is about $74,000. That put this car 26% under.

Driver-grade 1967 327/350 four-speed convertibles have recently sold for $72,760 (Hagerty Marketplace, March 2025, replaced short block) and $74,900 (Hagerty Marketplace, June 2026, numbers lost in a rebuild). Restored numbers-matching L79 cars bring far more. At $55,000 this car is about 26% under a $74k midpoint, though its accident history and fair paint justify some of that gap.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • The listing gives no VIN and does not state title status; get the VIN, trim tag and title before paying anything
  • Have a C2 specialist inspect the frame and birdcage near the front where the accident happened, and check the fit and bonding of the aftermarket front end
  • Confirm the engine stamping (suffix code and VIN derivative) and the date codes on the transmission and rear; also confirm whether the A/C and power steering are factory
  • Check the frame rails behind the rear wheels, the trailing-arm mounts and the birdcage around the windshield and door hinges for rust
  • Private-seller listing: confirm the title and VIN in person, and don't send a deposit before seeing the car

Making it drive like new

Keep the 327 and four-speed, then add a coilover front kit or poly bushings with upgraded springs, rebuilt four-wheel disc brakes with stainless calipers, a power-rack or rebuilt power steering, radial tires on 17-inch period-style wheels, a modern ignition and aluminum radiator with electric fan, three-point belts and LED lighting. A five-speed swap is easy to reverse if originality matters later.
