1976 Triumph TR6 overdrive roadster priced under recent driver sales
Cheap way into a TR6 with overdrive. Priced near the bottom of recent driver sales, so inspect it closely.
Why we picked it
This 1976 Triumph TR6 is white over black with the 4-speed manual and overdrive. Lake Norman Auto Exchange in Cornelius, North Carolina lists it at $9,995 plus a $999 dealer fee. The dealer says its cars pass North Carolina inspection and come with a 3-month or 3,000-mile limited powertrain warranty of up to $1,000. The odometer shows 7,796 miles, which on a 50-year-old car is almost certainly not the total mileage.
Recent 1976 TR6 sales on Bring a Trailer ran from $9,000 to $22,600 for driver-grade cars, so this one is priced near the bottom of that range. It has been listed since June 2026, so there may be room to negotiate, but a long listing can also point to problems. The online listing says little about rust, title or service history, so ask for those details and get a pre-purchase inspection before you buy.
The value check
The seller is asking $9,995. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $9,000–$22,600, so the middle of the market is about $15,800. That put this car 37% under.
Five 1976 TR6 driver-grade cars sold on Bring a Trailer from April to July 2026 for $9,000 to $22,600 (midpoint about $15,800). At $9,995 this one is about 37% under that midpoint. The $999 dealer fee brings it to about $10,994, which is still about 30% under.

What to check
- Frame rust and cracks at the rear trailing-arm mounts and differential mounts are the big TR6 weak spots
- Check the floors, rocker panels, lower fenders and trunk floor for rust and old patch work
- Rear-axle splines and U-joints wear, and the differential mounts tear
- Confirm the overdrive engages in 3rd and 4th (solenoid and wiring faults are common)
- The listing does not mention title status or service records, so ask for both
- Watch for injection-style rust bubbles under the paint around the headlights and the windshield frame
Making it drive like new
A TR6 is a good base for a mild restomod. Common upgrades are a fully boxed and reinforced frame, poly bushings, a Nissan or Ford 5-speed swap or a rebuilt overdrive, uprated front brakes, telescopic rear shock conversion, electronic ignition, and a modern alternator and wiring harness. All of this keeps the car looking stock while making it more reliable and better to drive.
