Why we picked it

Why we picked it: Gateway Classic Cars in San Antonio/Austin lists this final-year TR6 at $14,500. The seller describes it as highly original, with the factory 2.5-liter six, a four-speed manual, power brakes, a manual top and radial tires. The odometer shows 5,556 miles, but on a five-digit gauge that most likely means it has rolled over.

Late rubber-bumper TR6s sold for $15,250 to $23,000 on Bring a Trailer this summer, so this is a reasonable starting point for a restomod. The listing has been up since June. Gateway's own page does not show a price, so confirm the $14,500 figure and the dealer fees before you travel.

The value check

The seller is asking $14,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $12,750–$24,000, so the middle of the market is about $18,375. That put this car 21% under.

Compared with original-condition TR6 driver sales from Aug-Sep 2026, including several 1975-76 cars at $15,250-$23,000. The overall driver range is about $12,750-$24,000.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • 1976 US cars ran low compression and a single-exhaust emissions setup, so expect less power than early cars
  • Check the frame around the rear suspension and diff mounts for cracks and old repairs
  • Look for rust in the floors, rockers, rear fender bottoms and trunk floor
  • Ask whether it has overdrive; the listing says four-speed only
  • Mileage is unverified and the odometer may have rolled over
  • Confirm the price, title status and Gateway doc fee in writing

Making it drive like new

Start with a higher-compression rebuild or a mild cam and triple Webers to win back the power lost to 1976 emissions tuning. Add a five-speed swap, a bigger front brake kit, poly bushings with a diff brace, and a modern wiring harness with LED lighting.
