1972 Triumph TR6 with a 2020 engine rebuild and replacement gearbox, priced under driver sales
White-over-tan TR6 with a 2020 engine rebuild and new gearbox, about 26% under the driver-sale midpoint.
Why we picked it
Why we picked it: Gateway Classic Cars in St. Louis lists this 1972 TR6 at $13,500. The seller says the inline six was rebuilt by a professional mechanic in 2020, the transmission was replaced with a new unit, and more than $20,000 in parts went in, with receipts from Moss Motors and a parts list to back it up. The original wheels, carburetors and manuals come with the car.
TR6s in usable driver condition have been selling for roughly $15,000 to $20,000 this year, so this one leaves room for the suspension and brake upgrades these cars need. The listing does not say anything about rust or overdrive, and it has been up since August, so there may be room to negotiate.
The value check
The seller is asking $13,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $12,750–$24,000, so the middle of the market is about $18,375. That put this car 27% under.
Compared with original-condition TR6 driver sales on Bring a Trailer, Hagerty and dealer sites from Aug-Sep 2026, which mostly landed between $12,750 and $24,000. Rusty or tired cars that sold for $4,000-$10,000 were left out.

What to check
- Check the frame at the rear trailing-arm mounts and the differential mounts for cracks and rust
- Look at the floors, inner rockers and the lower edges of the front fenders
- Ask for the 2020 rebuild paperwork and do a compression test
- Check whether the replacement gearbox has overdrive (the listing does not say)
- Listed mileage is TMU (true mileage unknown)
- Rear wheel bearings, differential mounts and half-shaft U-joints are common TR6 wear items
Making it drive like new
Plan on rear trailing-arm bushings and a diff-mount reinforcement kit, an upgraded front brake kit, a lowered spring and damper set, and electronic ignition. A Tremec or Toyota W58 five-speed conversion would make it a relaxed highway cruiser, and Weber or EFI fueling helps drivability.
