Why we picked it

Why we picked it: early long-wheelbase 911 coupes rarely come up for under $50,000 in running, driving shape. This 1971 911T has been with one private owner for about 20 years and is set up as a light outlaw car: a Sam Nelson-built 911E-type engine on Weber 40s with MSD ignition, a 901 five-speed rebuilt by Auto Europe, lowered suspension with revised brakes and shocks, Recaro seats and Deep 6 wheels. The seller says the body was taken to bare metal for its Conda Green repaint more than 10 years ago.

The key detail is that the original 2.2 engine and the original seats come with the car, so a buyer can keep it as a driver or take it back toward stock later. At $48,000, and the seller says they will negotiate, it sits about 25 percent under the midpoint of what comparable driver-grade 911T coupes have sold for. The seller is upfront that it is not a concours car and that it has seen a few track days.

The value check

The seller is asking $48,000. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $55,000–$73,000, so the middle of the market is about $64,000. That put this car 25% under.

Driver-grade long-wheelbase 911T coupes have sold for $55,000-$73,000: a 1970 911T coupe 5-speed at $55,000 on PCARMARKET (Sep 2026), a 1970 911T at GBP 48,750 (about $63,000) at The Market (Oct 2026) and a modified 1973 911T at $73,000 on BaT (Sep 2026). Fully built outlaw cars bring $110,000 and up.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • The seller mentions a couple of small holes in the floor and a replaced front pan; inspect the floors, longitudinals, kidney bowls and battery boxes closely.
  • Title status is not stated on the listing; confirm a clean title in the seller's name.
  • The odometer reads in kilometers; ask why, and treat the mileage as unverified.
  • Ask for paperwork on the Sam Nelson engine build and the transaxle rebuild, and run a leak-down and compression test.
  • The car has been listed since late August and was offered before in 2025; that gives room to negotiate but ask what held it up.

Making it drive like new

This is already most of the way to a period-style outlaw. Next steps would be a modern fuel and ignition map check for the Webers, Elephant Racing or similar polybronze bushings, adjustable torsion-bar perches for corner balancing, upgraded brakes from a later 911, and a modest A/C or heat-exchanger refresh for road use. Store the numbers-matching 2.2 properly, as it protects the car's value.
