Rare The listed VIN 0F02G188448 decodes to a 1970 Dearborn-built SportsRoof with the G-code Boss 302 engine. Ford built about 7,013 Boss 302s for 1970. VIN and engine still need to be verified in person.

Why we picked it

This is lot 1a in a Graber Auctions online estate sale in Loogootee, Indiana, which runs on HiBid. The listing says only: yellow, has title, VIN 0F02G188448. That VIN carries the G engine code used only on the Boss 302. The bid is $7,030 after 33 bids. A 12% buyer's premium brings that to about $7,874. Finished original Boss 302s sold for roughly $66,000 to $96,000 in 2025, so even a rough, incomplete car with a real Boss VIN is worth far more than the current bid. Bids usually climb a lot in the last hours, and this one will too.

The auction says nothing about mileage, whether the original engine or 4-speed is still there, rust, or whether it runs. The sale highlights also list motors and car parts, so ask the auctioneer whether any Boss parts are sold as separate lots. It is sold as-is, where-is, with local pickup only on November 12 and sales tax charged on titled vehicles. Do not bid until you or someone you trust has looked at it.

The value check

The current bid is $7,030. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $66,000–$95,700, so the middle of the market is about $80,850. That put this car 91% under. Bids usually climb in the final hours, so the discount will likely shrink.

The comps are finished, largely original 1970 Boss 302s that sold in 2025, mostly between $66,000 and $95,700 (classic.com market data), with an outlier at $143,000 (Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2025). This lot's condition is not described, so it is valued as a rare project. A project will sell well below these finished-car prices.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Confirm the VIN on the door tag and on the dash VIN plate, and compare them with the title. Boss 302 clones and re-tagged cars exist, so get a Marti report.
  • Check whether the original Boss 302 block (with partial VIN stamp), Cleveland-style heads and top-loader 4-speed are present. The Boss value drops sharply without them.
  • Check rust in the floors, torque boxes, frame rails, cowl, trunk drop-offs and lower quarters, which are typical 1969-70 Mustang rot areas.
  • Missing Boss-specific parts (shaker or spoiler pieces, rev limiter, Boss trim) are expensive to replace.
  • Estate auction terms: 12% buyer's premium, 4% card fee, sales tax on titled vehicles, as-is, pickup only on Nov 12 by appointment, and unclaimed items are forfeited.

Making it drive like new

If the drivetrain is gone and the car is no longer collector-correct, a Boss is a natural base for a pro-touring build. Options include a Coyote 5.0 or a built 302/347 with a 5- or 6-speed, a coilover front end or Mustang II-style IFS, a 4-link or Watts-link 9-inch rear, four-wheel discs and subframe connectors. If the numbers-matching parts are there, it is worth more restored to original, and any upgrades should be bolt-on and reversible.
