Why we picked it

Why we picked it: this is a 1968 fastback that Classic Recreations built for the current owner in 2011 as a licensed Eleanor recreation. The listing says it has a 427ci Windsor with a ProCharger F-1R and Mass-Flo EFI, a TREMEC T56 Magnum six-speed, a FAB9 9-inch with 3.89 gears, tubular front control arms with rack-and-pinion steering, a triangulated four-link rear, coilovers at all four corners and four-wheel discs. It shows 1,900 miles (TMU) and has a clean New Jersey title.

It is offered at no reserve, so it will sell. The current bid of $25,555 is a long way under what built fastbacks like this bring, but the auction has more than two weeks to run and bids usually climb a lot near the end. We are flagging it now so you can do your homework before then.

The value check

The current bid is $75,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $76,000–$160,000, so the middle of the market is about $118,000. That put this car 36% under. Bids usually climb in the final hours, so the discount will likely shrink.

Built 1967-68 Mustang fastback restomods have sold for about $76,000 on Bring a Trailer this month, and an Eleanor tribute fastback sold on Hagerty for $160,000 on October 19. The current bid is more than 75% under the midpoint, but it is early and the auction runs until November 9.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Bids usually climb sharply in the last days; the current number is not a likely final price.
  • The VIN decode shows a 302 4-barrel car, as expected for a converted fastback; confirm the body was a real 1968 fastback shell and check the data plate.
  • Ask for build records from Classic Recreations and proof of the Eleanor license, since unlicensed Eleanor cars have faced legal claims.
  • A 15-year-old build: inspect fuel lines, supercharger belt and intercooler plumbing, coilover bushings and wiring.
  • Check for rust in the floors, torque boxes, cowl and rear quarters under the body kit.
  • No flaws are listed; ask for underside photos or a pre-purchase inspection.

Making it drive like new

Most of the hard work is done. A newer buyer might update to a current ECU tune, add modern A/C if it is missing, and refresh the brakes and tires before driving it hard.
