Why we picked it

This Blood Orange 1969 911E coupe (chassis 119220668) is Lot 20 in the Thoroughbred Motorsports Collection sale on Hagerty Marketplace, offered without reserve with a clean Pennsylvania title. The seller says the numbers-matching engine was taken apart and rebuilt with 911S pistons and cylinders and upgraded internals, and that the Bosch mechanical fuel injection was fully refurbished. It has a 5-speed manual, 911S ventilated brakes, Koni front struts, forged Fuchs wheels and an electronic ignition.

The current bid is $10,500 with six bids, and the auction runs to October 28. Bids usually climb a long way on early 911s, so treat this as a car to watch, not a price. Running 911E coupes have sold for $80,000 to $112,000 this year, and the listing notes paint chips, interior wear and that not every flaw in the collection could be found.

The value check

When we found it, the bid was $70,000. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $80,000–$112,000, so the middle of the market is about $96,000. That put this car 27% under.

Running 1969-70 911E coupes sold for $80,000 to $112,000 between July and September 2026 (BaT, Kruse). The $10,500 bid is an opening no-reserve bid three weeks before the close, so it is far below where the car should finish.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Ask for the engine rebuild records, and confirm the engine and gearbox numbers against a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
  • Mechanical fuel injection needs a specialist to set up; budget for a pump check even after the refurbishment
  • Inspect the front pan, battery boxes, longitudinals, kidney bowls and rear torsion tube mounts for rust and old repairs
  • Mileage is TMU and the tires are 2022 date codes; check the 901 gearbox synchros on a drive
  • Collection lots are sold as-is with limited diagnosis, so inspect in Savannah or use a pre-purchase inspection

Making it drive like new

Keep the MFI engine and make sympathetic, reversible changes: fresh suspension bushings, Bilstein or Koni dampers with a mild torsion bar upgrade, turbo tie rods, a modern fuel pump and filter, upgraded brake pads and lines, and inertia-reel three-point belts.

How it ended

It sold for $75,970 on Oct 28, 2026, against a market value of about $96,000 when we found it.
