Why we picked it

This is a 1967 Mustang fastback with an S-code VIN (7F02S134921), so it left Dearborn with the 390 four-barrel big-block, here backed by a C6 automatic. The same family has owned it since the early 1980s. The listing says the owner's grandfather refurbished it and repainted it red. It was originally Raven Black, and the interior is black vinyl. It is offered at no reserve through a Broad Arrow specialist on a clean Florida title.

The bid sat at $25,000 after 7 bids, and the auction runs until October 21, so expect it to climb a lot. Documented S-code GT fastbacks have sold for $78,000 to $84,000 this summer. Even as a color-changed driver with little paperwork, this one has plenty of room before it reaches fair value.

The value check

When we found it, the bid was $33,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $57,000–$84,000, so the middle of the market is about $70,500. That put this car 52% under.

Recent BaT sales of 1967 GT fastbacks ran $57,000 (289 GT) to $78,555 and $84,000 for documented S-code 390 cars. This one is a color-changed driver, so it should land below those, but the current $25,000 bid is about 35% of the $70,500 midpoint with 12 days left.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Confirm the 390 is the original block (date codes) or at least a correct FE; a non-original engine knocks a lot off the value, as the $26,483 swapped-engine S-code sale showed
  • No Marti report is mentioned; order one with the VIN to confirm the GT/A package and the original color and options
  • Check the cowl vents, floor pans, torque boxes, frame rails and lower rear quarters for rust or old patch work hidden under the refurbishment
  • The extent of the grandfather's restoration is not documented; look closely at the undercarriage photos and videos
  • The side stripes are missing on one side and partly missing on the other; brake work is listed with an odd "September 2026" date, so ask about it

Making it drive like new

If it is not kept original, the usual big-block fastback upgrades fit well here. Those are a coilover front end or a Roller Performance/Total Control setup with a subframe-connector kit, plus four-wheel discs. An AOD or 4R70W overdrive swap would keep the 390 and the GT/A look. Keep the original C6 and any date-coded parts so the car can be returned to stock.

6 builders make a complete chassis for the 1964½–70 Mustang. Compare them side by side, along with what it takes to stiffen the factory frame.

How it ended

Bidding reached $33,500 but the car didn't sell (ended Oct 15, 2026). Unsold cars often get relisted, so it may turn up again.
