Rare Documented S-code 390-4V GT/A fastback (GT Equipment Group with automatic), confirmed by a Deluxe Marti Report.

Why we picked it

This 1967 Mustang fastback is a GT/A, meaning the GT Equipment Group paired with the C-6 automatic, and its VIN carries the S code for the 390-4V big block. A Deluxe Marti Report lists the GT group, power steering, tilt-away wheel, console, fold-down sport deck rear seat, interior and exterior decor groups, tinted glass and an AM/8-track stereo. It was refinished in black over black vinyl before the seller bought it in 2018 and shows 35,300 miles, true mileage unknown.

The seller says it recently had ignition work (a PerTronix conversion), a carburetor adjustment, a new battery and front brake service. The current bid is $30,000 with the auction ending October 13 on Hagerty Marketplace. GT/A fastbacks have sold for roughly $55k to $90k over the past year, so there is a lot of room before this one reaches market value. Bids usually climb in the final days, so treat today's number as a starting point.

The value check

When we found it, the bid was $63,000. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $55,000–$90,000, so the middle of the market is about $72,500. That put this car 13% under.

Recent sales of 1967 GT/A fastbacks run from about $55.6k (BaT, May 2026) to $90.2k (Mecum, Oct 2025), with $77k-$84k typical in 2026. The current bid of $30,000 is about 59% under the $72.5k midpoint, but it has seven days left and bids usually climb.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Sold on Connecticut registration only (CT does not title cars this old); confirm your state will title it from that paperwork before bidding
  • The listing does not say the 390 is the original, numbers-matching engine; ask for block and date codes
  • Check floors, torque boxes, cowl vents and lower quarters under the black paint, common rust areas on early Mustangs
  • Hagerty lists no specific imperfections in text, so study the photo gallery or arrange an inspection
  • Original big-block cars often have tired front suspension and steering boxes; check for wander and play

Making it drive like new

Keep the Marti-documented GT/A equipment and drivetrain correct and focus on reversible upgrades: a quality front disc brake refresh, Opentracker-style roller perches and better shocks, a modern radiator for the 390, and a period-look stereo that is already in place. Store any removed original parts with the car.

How it ended

It sold for $87,205 on Oct 13, 2026, against a market value of about $72,500 when we found it.
