1965 Volvo P1800S, clean-title driver with fresh paint, bid far below driver sales
Clean-title, recently painted 1800S bid far below driver comps; watch where the bid lands.
Ended Why we picked it
This is a Swedish-built 1965 1800S, chassis 13246, in white with a red and black interior, the B18 1.8-liter four on twin SUs and a 4-speed manual. It has a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller's name. The seller says it was recently repainted and has had front pads, rear wheel cylinders, clutch slave, steering coupler and fuel tank replaced. Disclosed faults are an inoperative radio and cracked side window seals.
At $8,500 with about five days left, the bid sits well under what comparable driver 1800S coupes have been selling for, which is roughly $18,000 to $27,000. The bid will climb, and the listing does not say if there is a reserve, so the real deal depends on where it ends. It is still a good one to watch: the 1800S has a timeless shape and a very strong parts and club network.
The value check
When we found it, the bid was $9,250. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $18,000–$27,000, so the middle of the market is about $22,500. That put this car 59% under.
US driver-grade 1800S coupes have recently sold between about $18,250 and $27,000 (BaT Sep 2026 $18,250, BaT Aug 2026 $21,250, BaT Feb 2026 $26,750, private Jan 2026 $27,000); classic.com's 1800S benchmark is about $34,800. The current bid of $8,500 is roughly 62% under the $22,500 midpoint, but it will rise before the close and the listing does not say whether there is a reserve.

What to check
- Listing says nothing about rust; inspect floors, sills, jacking points, rear valance, front fender bottoms and battery tray
- Fresh paint can hide filler; check panel gaps and look under the carpets and in the trunk
- 4-speed with no overdrive listed; confirm whether it is an M40 or an M41 with overdrive
- Mileage is TMU; ask for any service records from before the January 2025 purchase
- Check for a reserve and compare final hammer price against the $18k-$27k comps before bidding up
Making it drive like new
The B18 is tough and responds well to a B20 swap or a mild cam and head, and a 5-speed conversion (Volvo M41 overdrive or a Toyota W58 kit) makes it a relaxed highway car. Add uprated front brakes, poly bushings, IPD sway bars, an electronic ignition and a modern cooling fan, and keep the cow-horn bumpers or go to the cleaner early look.
How it ended
Bidding reached $19,000 but the car didn't sell (ended Oct 8, 2026). Unsold cars often get relisted, so it may turn up again.
