Why we picked it

Why we picked it: split-window Double Cab pickups are among the most sought-after Type 2 body styles. This 1964 is two-tone Mouse Gray and Pearl White, with a 1.6-liter engine, a 12-volt conversion, individual front seats with a walk-through layout made from split-bus camper parts, and an original EMPI roof rack. It has been in the same collection since 2011.

The current bid is $21,277 at no reserve, and the auction runs to October 28, so expect bids to climb. Recent Doka and Double Cab sales ran from $36,000 to $60,000. The listing gives little detail on rust or mechanical condition, and title status is not stated, so ask before bidding.

The value check

When we found it, the bid was $31,250. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $36,000–$60,000, so the middle of the market is about $48,000. That put this car 35% under.

Split-window Double Cab and Doka sales over the past year ran $36,000 to $60,000 for original and lightly modified trucks, with a fully done 1964 at $83,000.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Title status is not stated in the listing; confirm a clean title before bidding
  • Check the bed floor, rocker and cargo-door channels, front cab floor, outriggers and jacking points for rust
  • The walk-through and seat layout is not factory; purists may want the solid bulkhead back
  • Only partial service receipts; vinyl and interior show wear
  • Sold as is, where is, plus a 7% buyer's premium

Making it drive like new

A disc brake conversion up front, a dual-circuit master cylinder, a fresh 1776 or well-built 1600 with electronic ignition, and IRS-style suspension refresh make it a usable daily hauler. Add three-point belts and LED lighting while keeping the split-window look.

How it ended

It sold for $45,743 on Oct 28, 2026, against a market value of about $48,000 when we found it.
