Donor cars for the 1992–99 GMT400 Suburban

Modern drivetrains from used cars. The donors whose engine a chassis or swap kit for your car is built to take come first, with used pullout prices.

What it is

A donor car is a modern car or truck, often wrecked or high-mileage, bought for its engine, transmission and electronics. The engine and gearbox come out together as a "pullout" and go into a classic, along with the computer, wiring and pedal when they come with it. You can buy the whole donor and sell what you don't need, or buy just the pullout.

Why it matters

A used pullout often costs a third to half of a new crate engine and transmission, and many of the chassis and swap kits we list are built around these exact engines. The trade-off is unknown history and the work of making the drivetrain run on its own: a standalone harness or a modified factory one, a tune that removes the anti-theft, and the right oil pan, intake and accessories to fit your car. Check compression and look for a run video before you buy.

Donors that suit the 1992–99 GMT400 Suburban

None of the chassis or swap kits we list for the 1992–99 GMT400 Suburban name one of these engines yet, so we can't point you to a donor with confidence. The donors below are the common ones; ask your chassis builder or swap-kit maker which engines they support.

Their engines need more custom work in the 1992–99 GMT400 Suburban

LS Chevrolet / GMC

1999–2007 Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra & Express / Savana vans (4.8, 5.3, 6.0)

Engine
4.8L LR4, 5.3L LM7 or 6.0L LQ4/LQ9 Gen III V8, roughly 270–345 hp depending on engine and year
Transmission
4L60E 4-speed automatic (half-ton) or heavy-duty 4L80E 4-speed automatic (6.0L, 3/4-ton trucks and vans)
$2,350–$6,500 Used. Engine + transmission pullouts/dropouts (with harness and ECU on the LQ4 units), 4 listings: eBay and PartRequest, checked Oct 2026 (one eBay sale Oct 1, 2026)

What you get. A good pullout includes the engine and transmission with the truck's engine harness and PCM, and usually the alternator, A/C compressor, power steering pump and starter. Drive-by-wire trucks should also come with the gas pedal and throttle control module.

Watch out for. The PCM carries GM's VATS anti-theft and must be reflashed or tuned before the engine will run outside the truck. The deep front-sump truck oil pan, tall truck intake and wide truck accessory drive usually have to be swapped for car-style or swap-specific parts to fit a classic. These engines are cheap because most have high mileage, so do a compression or leak-down test before you buy.

Best for. Budget LS swaps into almost anything, from A-body Chevelles and C10 trucks to Tri-Fives and Novas, especially where cost matters more than peak power.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1964–67 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body1967–69 First-gen Camaro & Firebird1970–81 Second-gen Camaro & Firebird1968–72 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body1967–72 C10 pickup1962–67 Chevy II / Nova and 45 more

LS Chevrolet / Pontiac

1998–2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28/SS & Pontiac Firebird Formula/Trans Am

Engine
5.7L LS1 Gen III V8, 305–325 hp
Transmission
Tremec/Borg-Warner T56 6-speed manual or 4L60E 4-speed automatic
$5,850–$9,100 Used. eBay LS1 pullouts (two engine + T56 combos and one engine-only), 3 listings, Aug–Oct 2026

What you get. A pullout is normally the long block with intake, the F-body oil pan and the T56 or 4L60E, often with the harness, PCM and cable-throttle body. Its low-profile intake and oil pan are part of why it is a popular swap engine.

Watch out for. Most of these cars are 20+ years old and have been driven hard, so check for oil consumption, piston slap and T56 synchro wear. The PCM has VATS anti-theft that has to be tuned out. The T56 shifter sits in a set position, so check it against your tunnel and seat before you buy.

Best for. First- and second-gen Camaros, Firebirds, Novas and other lightweight GM muscle cars where a stock-looking low hood line matters.

LS Pontiac

2004–06 Pontiac GTO

Engine
5.7L LS1, 350 hp (2004) / 6.0L LS2, 400 hp (2005–06)
Transmission
Tremec T56 6-speed manual or 4L60E (2004) / 4L65E (2005–06) 4-speed automatic
$6,500–$9,100 Used. eBay engine + transmission pullouts, 2 listings (one listing now out of stock), checked Oct 2026

What you get. Usually the complete engine from intake to oil pan with sensors, plus the T56 or 4L65E. The ECM, harness and drive-by-wire pedal (LS2) are sometimes included and sometimes sold separately.

Watch out for. The 2005–06 LS2 is drive-by-wire, so you need the matching pedal and either the GTO ECM with a tune or an aftermarket controller. The Holden-specific oil pan and accessories may not fit your chassis. Any car-based PCM needs its anti-theft tuned out.

Best for. Pro-touring A-bodies, early Camaros and GTO restomods where you want a 400 hp LS2 with a manual gearbox.

LS Pontiac

2008–09 Pontiac G8 GT / GXP

Engine
6.0L L76 Gen IV V8 with AFM, 361 hp (GT) / 6.2L LS3, 415 hp (2009 GXP)
Transmission
6L80E 6-speed automatic (GT); GXP: Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual or 6L80E
$4,446–$5,695 Used. eBay engine + 6L80E liftouts, 2 sold listings (Jul 16 and Oct 5, 2026)

What you get. A liftout usually comes with the engine and accessory drive, starter, exhaust manifolds and engine harness, plus the 6L80E. The ECM and TCM are often missing or listed separately, so ask before you buy.

Watch out for. The L76 has Active Fuel Management (AFM/DOD) lifters, which are known to fail, so many builders delete AFM when they install the engine. It uses a 58x reluctor and the E38 ECM, so older 24x controllers and harnesses will not work. The 6L80E needs its own TCM and tuning.

Best for. Modern-automatic LS swaps into muscle cars, trucks and cruisers that will see lots of highway miles. GXP manual drivetrains are rare and best for pro-touring builds.

LS Chevrolet

2010–15 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Engine
6.2L LS3 V8, 426 hp (manual) / L99, 400 hp (automatic)
Transmission
Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual or 6L80E 6-speed automatic
$6,885–$9,950 Used. eBay pullouts (engine-only and engine + transmission), 5 listings, checked Oct 2026

What you get. Pullouts usually include the engine and accessories with the TR6060 or 6L80E, and sometimes the E38 ECM and harness. Some sellers pair the engine with a different transmission, for example a remanufactured 4L60E.

Watch out for. The automatic-only L99 has AFM/DOD lifters and cam phasing that need to be tuned or deleted. The LS3 manual engine has neither. The Camaro's engine controls are tied into its body control module and anti-theft, so most swaps use a standalone harness and tuned ECM. The factory oil pan is often swapped for clearance.

Best for. Pro-touring builds wanting a 6.2L with a modern 6-speed, including first-gen Camaros, Chevelles, Novas and C10s.

LS Chevrolet

2005–13 Chevrolet Corvette C6 (engine only)

Engine
6.0L LS2, 400 hp (2005–07) / 6.2L LS3, 430–436 hp (2008–13) / 7.0L LS7, 505 hp (Z06)
Transmission
Rear transaxle (6-speed manual or 4L60E/4L65E, later 6L80E automatic), which will not work in a front-engine, rear-drive classic
$5,200–$9,950 Used. eBay C6 engines, 2 listings (one engine-only LS2, one LS3 sold with a reman 4L60E added by the seller), checked Oct 2026

What you get. Usually just the engine with its accessories and the shallow Corvette oil pan. The rear-mounted transaxle and torque tube stay behind or are sold separately.

Watch out for. The C6 transmission is a rear transaxle, so you will need a separate bellhousing-mounted transmission (T56 Magnum, TR6060, 4L80E/6L80E), plus a flywheel and clutch to match. The LS7 and manual Grand Sport use a dry-sump oil system that is expensive to adapt, and LS7 valve-guide wear is a known issue. The Corvette's wide, shallow oil pan can hit some crossmembers.

Best for. Low-hood pro-touring builds, such as Corvettes, early Camaros and Cobra-style cars, where the shallow pan helps and you were going to buy a separate transmission anyway.

LS Chevrolet

2014–17 Chevrolet SS

Engine
6.2L LS3 V8, 415 hp (no AFM)
Transmission
6L80E 6-speed automatic, or Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual (2015–17)
$8,395–$10,000 Used. eBay LS3 + 6L80E pullouts/liftouts, 3 listings, checked Oct 2026

What you get. Usually the LS3 with sensors and exhaust manifolds plus the 6L80E or TR6060. The factory harness and ECM are often not included, and one seller says a new harness and programming are the buyer's job.

Watch out for. Because this is a late-model car, its engine controls are tied to the body control module and anti-theft, so plan on a standalone harness and tuned ECM. The 6L80E needs a TCM and tuning. Prices are high because the SS sedans are collectible, and manual cars rarely get parted out.

Best for. High-end pro-touring builds wanting a non-AFM LS3 with a modern 6-speed automatic in Chevelles, Camaros and C10s.

LT Chevrolet / GMC

2014–18 Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra / Tahoe / Yukon (5.3 L83, 6.2 L86)

Engine
5.3L L83, 355 hp / 6.2L L86, 420 hp Gen V direct-injection V8 (both with AFM)
Transmission
6L80E 6-speed automatic; 6.2L L86 trucks from 2015 use the 8L90E 8-speed automatic
$2,214–$6,500 Used. eBay used engine assemblies (engine only, no transmission), 5 listings, checked Oct 2026 (L86 Yukon listing sold)

What you get. Recyclers mostly sell engine assemblies with heads, oil pan and some accessories. Full pullouts with the harness, E92 ECM, pedal and transmission are less common and cost more.

Watch out for. Direct injection uses a cam-driven high-pressure pump that needs a strong low-pressure supply from the tank (commonly about 58–72 psi), so a carb-era fuel system will not work. AFM lifters are a known failure point, and many swaps delete AFM. The truck oil pan, accessory drive and E92 controller all need swap-specific parts or a GM/aftermarket control kit.

Best for. C10 and square-body trucks, Blazers and big-body cruisers wanting modern DI efficiency and torque.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1967–69 First-gen Camaro & Firebird1969–72 K5 Blazer, first generation1964–67 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body1973–87 Squarebody C10 pickup1968–74 Nova1967–72 C10 pickup and 32 more

LT Chevrolet

2016+ Chevrolet Camaro SS (LT1)

Engine
6.2L LT1 Gen V direct-injection V8, 455 hp
Transmission
Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual, or 8L90E 8-speed (2016–18) / 10L90E 10-speed (2019+) automatic
$5,091–$10,625 Used. eBay listings (two long blocks, one complete engine + TR6060 pullout), 3 listings, checked Oct 2026

What you get. Complete pullouts include the LT1, accessories and transmission, while recyclers often sell just the long block. The E92 ECM and harness come out of the car's integrated electrical system and usually need to be replaced with a swap harness or a Chevrolet Performance controller kit.

Watch out for. Like the trucks, the LT1 needs a high-pressure-capable low-side fuel supply to feed its direct-injection pump. LT1s have AFM hardware that must be tuned or deleted. The deep Camaro wet-sump pan and electronic throttle often need swap-specific parts, and the newer automatics need their own controllers.

Best for. Top-tier pro-touring builds wanting near-new 455 hp with a 6-speed manual, such as first-gen Camaros, Chevelles and Novas.

Coyote Ford

2011+ Ford Mustang GT (Coyote 5.0)

Engine
5.0L Coyote DOHC V8: 412–420 hp (Gen 1, 2011–14), 435 hp (Gen 2, 2015–17), 460 hp (Gen 3, 2018–23), 480–500 hp (Gen 4, 2024+)
Transmission
Getrag/Ford MT82 6-speed manual (Mach 1 and 2024+ use the Tremec TR-3160), 6R80 6-speed automatic (2011–17) or 10R80 10-speed automatic (2018+)
$9,400–$16,200 Used. eBay engine + transmission pullouts/dropouts, 4 listings, checked Oct 2026

What you get. Dropouts usually include the engine and accessories with the manual or automatic transmission. Better ones also include the PCM, harness and pedal, but many swaps use Ford Performance's Control Pack instead.

Watch out for. The DOHC heads make the Coyote very wide, so check shock tower, firewall and steering clearance in older chassis. The MT82 has a reputation for notchy shifting and durability complaints, so many builders upgrade to a Tremec. Gen 3+ engines use both port and direct injection with a high-pressure pump, and Ford's PATS anti-theft has to be handled by a swap controller or tune.

Best for. Classic Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes and Ford trucks wanting modern Ford power, and pro-touring Fords where modern power is the goal.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1964½–70 Mustang1966–77 Early Bronco1953–56 F-100 pickup1948–52 F-1 pickup1967–72 F-100 pickup (Bumpside)1964–67 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body and 18 more

Coyote Ford

2011+ Ford F-150 5.0 (Coyote)

Engine
5.0L Coyote DOHC V8, 360 hp (2011–14), 385 hp (2015–17), 395 hp (2018–20), 400 hp (2021+)
Transmission
6R80 6-speed automatic (2011–17) or 10R80 10-speed automatic (2018+)
$8,000–$10,000 Used. eBay engine + 6R80 pullouts, 2 listings (one ended Sep 12, 2026 with 1 sold), Oct 2026

What you get. A truck pullout is the engine and automatic transmission, and some sellers include a swap kit with the PCM, key and column. 4x4 donors come with a transfer-case tailhousing that needs a 2WD conversion for most classics.

Watch out for. Truck Coyotes have a different oil pan, intake and accessory drive from the Mustang engine and often need the car parts to fit. Some 2018–20 F-150 5.0s are known for oil consumption. As with all Coyotes, plan for the engine's width and Ford's PATS anti-theft.

Best for. Ford trucks (F-100 and Bronco), Rancheros and big-body Fords where an automatic Coyote at truck-donor prices makes sense.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1964½–70 Mustang1966–77 Early Bronco1953–56 F-100 pickup1948–52 F-1 pickup1967–72 F-100 pickup (Bumpside)1964–67 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body and 18 more

Hemi Dodge / Ram

2003+ Dodge / Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi

Engine
5.7L Gen III Hemi V8, 345 hp (2003–08) / 390–395 hp VVT 'Eagle' (2009+)
Transmission
545RFE 5-speed automatic (2003–08), 65RFE 6-speed automatic (2009–12), 8HP70 8-speed automatic (2013+)
$1,935–$2,310 Used. eBay used 5.7 engine assemblies (engine only), 3 listings, one sold Jul 2026, one sold Apr 2025, one live (propane-converted)

What you get. Recyclers mostly sell the bare used engine assembly. Full dropouts with the PCM, harness and transmission are less common, and harnesses and PCMs often sell separately.

Watch out for. MDS (cylinder deactivation) lifter and cam wear, the so-called 'Hemi tick', is the best-known failure, so many swaps delete MDS. The truck PCM is tied to the Sentry Key immobilizer, so most builders use a tuned or Mopar/aftermarket swap controller. The truck oil pan and accessory drive usually need to be swapped for clearance.

Best for. Classic Mopar B- and E-bodies, Dodge trucks and other Mopar restomods on a budget.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1966–70 Mopar B-body (Charger, Road Runner, GTX, Coronet)1955–57 Tri-Five Chevrolet (Bel Air, 210, 150, Nomad)1953–56 F-100 pickup1970–74 Mopar E-body (Challenger, Barracuda/'Cuda)1964–67 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body1967–72 F-100 pickup (Bumpside) and 10 more

Hemi Chrysler / Dodge

2005+ Chrysler 300C / Dodge Charger / Challenger R/T & SRT 392

Engine
5.7L Hemi V8, about 340–375 hp / 6.4L (392) Hemi V8, 470–485 hp (SRT8 / Scat Pack / 392)
Transmission
Mercedes-derived 5-speed automatic (NAG1/W5A580), ZF-licensed 8HP70 8-speed automatic in later V8 cars, or Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual (Challenger)
$3,600–$7,500 Used. eBay used engine assemblies (engine only), 4 listings (three 5.7, one 6.4), checked Oct 2026

What you get. Usually the complete engine assembly from the recycler. Manual-car donors are worth hunting down because the TR6060 can come with them, while the harness, PCM and pedal are often separate items.

Watch out for. As with the trucks, automatic cars use MDS and can develop lifter tick. The car PCM and the electronically controlled automatics are networked with the body systems and anti-theft, so a Mopar or aftermarket swap controller is the usual fix. Check that the oil pan and the wide heads clear the K-member and steering in older chassis.

Best for. Classic Chargers, Challengers, Cudas, Darts and Road Runners wanting a modern Hemi, especially a 392 with a 6-speed manual.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1966–70 Mopar B-body (Charger, Road Runner, GTX, Coronet)1955–57 Tri-Five Chevrolet (Bel Air, 210, 150, Nomad)1953–56 F-100 pickup1970–74 Mopar E-body (Challenger, Barracuda/'Cuda)1964–67 Chevelle, GTO & GM A-body1967–72 F-100 pickup (Bumpside) and 10 more

Godzilla Ford

2020+ Ford F-250 / F-350 Super Duty 7.3 'Godzilla'

Engine
7.3L Godzilla pushrod gas V8, 430 hp / 475 lb-ft (2020–22), 485 lb-ft from 2023
Transmission
TorqShift 10R140 10-speed automatic
$4,750–$6,500 Used. eBay used Godzilla engine assemblies (engine only, from 2021–22 F-250s), 2 listings, checked Oct 2026

What you get. Used engines are mostly sold as engine assemblies from wrecked Super Duty trucks, sometimes with accessories still attached. Full pullouts with the transmission and PCM are rare, and Ford Performance sells a Control Pack for swaps.

Watch out for. It is a tall, heavy iron-block engine, so check hood height, crossmember clearance and front spring rates. The Super Duty oil pan and accessory drive are built for the truck chassis, so swaps usually need aftermarket pans and brackets. Port injection makes the fuel system simpler than DI engines, but Ford's PATS still has to be dealt with.

Best for. Classic Ford trucks, Broncos and big-body cars with room for a big-block, where you want big-block torque with a modern warranty-era engine.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1967–72 F-100 pickup (Bumpside)1964½–70 Mustang1979–93 Fox-body Mustang1967–72 F-100 / F-250 4x41973–79 F-100 pickup (Dentside)

2JZ Lexus / Toyota

1993–2005 Lexus SC300 / GS300 / IS300 (2JZ-GE)

Engine
3.0L 2JZ-GE DOHC inline-6, about 215–225 hp (VVT-i from 1998)
Transmission
Aisin 4- and 5-speed automatics in most cars; SC300 offered the W58 5-speed manual, and the IS300 had a rare 5-speed manual
$2,075–$2,300 Used. eBay JDM-import engines (engine only, some with ECU), 3 listings, Sep–Oct 2026

What you get. Most US sources are low-mileage JDM imports sold as long blocks with the external accessories bolted on. Some include the matching automatic ECU, but the transmission is usually extra.

Watch out for. The inline-6 is long, so check radiator and firewall clearance. VVT-i engines (1998+) need the matching ECU or a standalone, and the factory ECU's immobilizer must be dealt with. A manual swap means sourcing a W58, R154 or an adapter. The 2JZ-GE has a higher compression ratio than the turbo 2JZ-GTE, so boosted 'NA-T' builds need conservative boost and tuning.

Best for. Datsun 240Z/280Z, early Celicas, Cressidas, Toyota trucks and other Japanese classics wanting a durable inline-6.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1989–98 Nissan 240SX (S13 & S14)1993–98 Toyota Supra Mk IV (A80)1992–2000 Lexus SC300 & SC400

1UZ Lexus / Toyota

1990–2000 Lexus LS400 / SC400 / GS400 (1UZ-FE)

Engine
4.0L 1UZ-FE DOHC V8, about 250–260 hp (non-VVT-i) / 290–300 hp (VVT-i, 1998–2000)
Transmission
Aisin A340E 4-speed automatic (to 1997) or A650E 5-speed automatic (1998–2000); no factory manual
$2,050–$2,295 Used. eBay JDM-import VVT-i 1UZ-FE engines (engine only), 3 listings, Sep–Oct 2026

What you get. Usually a JDM-import long block with the timing cover, pan, valve covers and water pump. The harness, ECU and transmission are typically separate, though cheap.

Watch out for. There was never a factory manual, so a stick shift needs an aftermarket bellhousing adapter to a W58, R154, CD009 or similar. The timing belt must be replaced on schedule, and its condition is often unknown on imports. The wide DOHC heads, the different sump positions between donors and the factory wiring often lead builders to a custom pan and a standalone ECU.

Best for. Japanese classics wanting a smooth V8, such as Datsun Z cars, Toyota pickups and Land Cruisers, AE86s and Cressidas.

K-series Acura / Honda

2002–06 Acura RSX Type-S / 2002–11 Honda Civic Si (K20)

Engine
2.0L K20 DOHC i-VTEC inline-4: K20A2, 200 hp (2002–04 RSX-S), K20Z1, 210 hp (2005–06 RSX-S), K20A3, 160 hp (2002–05 Civic Si), K20Z3, 197 hp (2006–11 Civic Si)
Transmission
Honda 6-speed manual (RSX Type-S and 2006–11 Si) or 5-speed manual (2002–05 Si)
$2,985–$5,800 Used. eBay listings, 2 (one JDM K20A engine only, one K20Z1 + 6-speed package), checked Oct 2026

What you get. Some swap packages include the engine and 6-speed, but JDM K20A engines are usually sold motor-only. The harness and ECU are often extra, and many builders use a Hondata K-Pro.

Watch out for. The K20 is built for transverse front-wheel drive, so putting it in a rear-drive classic needs an aftermarket RWD bellhousing/adapter kit or a complete subframe/kit approach. The factory ECU's immobilizer means most swaps run a reflashed or aftermarket ECU. The early Civic Si K20A3 makes much less power than the Type-S engines, so check the engine code.

Best for. Lightweight Japanese and British classics such as Datsun 510s, AE86s, early Civics, Minis and Miatas, plus FWD-to-K-swap projects.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1992–2000 Honda Civic (EG & EK)1994–2001 Acura Integra (DC2)

K-series Honda / Acura

Honda/Acura K24 donors: TSX, Accord, Element, CR-V

Engine
2.4L K24 DOHC i-VTEC inline-4, about 160–205 hp (K24A1 CR-V, K24A4 Accord/Element, K24A2 TSX)
Transmission
Honda 5-speed manual, or an automatic: 4-speed in early CR-Vs (2002–04) and Elements (2003–06), 5-speed in later ones and in Accords; 6-speed manual in the TSX
$995–$1,545 Used. eBay JDM-import K24A long blocks (engine only), 3 listings, checked Oct 2026

What you get. Usually sold as cheap JDM-import long blocks with heads and some accessories. Many builders combine a K24 bottom end with a K20 head or a K20/TSX transmission.

Watch out for. Like the K20, it is a transverse FWD engine and needs an adapter kit for rear-drive use. Economy-car K24s have milder heads and intakes than the TSX, so check the engine code. Buyers often have to move sensors, the oil pan and accessories over from their old engine, and the factory immobilizer means a reflashed or aftermarket ECU.

Best for. Torque-friendly four-cylinder swaps into small Japanese classics, Minis, Volvos and kit cars on a budget.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1992–2000 Honda Civic (EG & EK)1994–2001 Acura Integra (DC2)

VQ35 Nissan / Infiniti

2003–06 Nissan 350Z / Infiniti G35 (VQ35DE)

Engine
3.5L VQ35DE DOHC V6, about 260–300 hp depending on model (287 hp in the 350Z, 300 hp in 2005–06 manual 'Rev-Up' cars)
Transmission
Aichi CD001 6-speed manual (CD009 in later 350Z), or RE5R05A 5-speed automatic
$1,835–$1,995 Used. eBay JDM-import VQ35DE engines (engine only), 4 listings, Aug–Oct 2026 (two ended)

What you get. JDM imports are usually sold engine only with head, pan, timing cover and water pump. The CD001 or CD009 6-speed is sold separately and is popular on its own as a swap gearbox.

Watch out for. The 2005–06 Rev-Up engines are known for oil consumption, so the non-Rev-Up engine is often preferred. The early CD001 is known for synchro wear, while the CD009 is stronger and is widely adapted to LS, 2JZ and other engines. The ECU is tied to Nissan's NATS immobilizer, so use the matching ECU and key or a standalone.

Best for. Datsun 240Z/280Z, 510 and Nissan trucks wanting a modern Nissan V6, or any classic using the CD009 gearbox.

Rotary Mazda

2004–11 Mazda RX-8 (Renesis 13B-MSP)

Engine
1.3L Renesis 13B-MSP twin-rotor rotary: 6-port about 232–238 hp, 4-port about 197–212 hp
Transmission
6-speed manual (6-port), 5-speed manual (4-port), 4-speed or 6-speed automatic
$1,699–$2,000 Used. eBay JDM-import 2009–11 RX-8 engines (engine only or engine + automatic), 3 listings, Aug–Oct 2026

What you get. Most are JDM imports, sold engine only or with the automatic transmission and sometimes the ECU. Manual-transmission packages turn up less often.

Watch out for. Apex seal wear and low compression are the main risk, so insist on a rotary-specific compression test. Renesis engines can flood on short cold starts and depend on their oil-metering system. The side-exhaust-port design means older RX-7 exhaust and intake parts do not swap over directly.

Best for. Classic Mazdas such as the RX-2, RX-3, RX-7 FB/FC and Miata, and other lightweight cars where a light, high-revving engine matters most.

Chassis or swap kits for: 1993–95 Mazda RX-7, third generation (FD)1986–92 Mazda RX-7, second generation (FC)1979–85 Mazda RX-7, first generation (SA/FB)
