Why we picked it

This is a genuine factory 4x4 F-250 (the F26 VIN prefix), the tall-stance Highboy that collectors and restomod builders look for. The seller says the 360 V8 has been rebuilt, it has the NP435 4-speed and locking hubs, the electrics work, and the interior is in good shape apart from a cracked dash and worn bench.

Why we picked it: at $9,500 it is about 61% under the midpoint of recent driver-grade Highboy sales, and even the cheapest recent sale we found ($16,500) is well above the asking price. The seller is open about moderate rust on the body, bed and underside, a cracked windshield, and a few small repairs, so the price makes sense. Even so, the gap leaves plenty of room for the metalwork.

The value check

When we found it, the seller was asking $9,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $16,500–$32,750, so the middle of the market is about $24,625. That put this car 61% under.

Recent Bring a Trailer sales of driver-grade 1971-72 F-250 Highboys ran $16,500 (390 swap, 4-speed) to $32,750 (original 360, 4-speed, refreshed). Nicer original Highboys brought $42,500-$55,000 in September 2026.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • Seller reports moderate rust on body, bed and undercarriage; check cab corners, floors, rocker panels, door bottoms and bed sides in person
  • Title status is not stated in the listing; confirm a clean title in the seller's name before money changes hands
  • Mileage is listed as true mileage unknown; the seller thinks the odometer was reset at the engine rebuild
  • Check the Dana 44 front axle, divorced transfer case and spring hangers for wear and cracks
  • Turn signal switch, horn and washer need repair, and the exhaust and shocks look original
  • Private-seller listing; see it in person before sending a deposit

Making it drive like new

A good base for a period-look build: keep the 360/NP435, add front disc brakes, a power steering box upgrade, new leaf packs and shocks, and an EFI conversion. Builders going further often swap in a Coyote or 5.9 Cummins with a ZF5 or modern overdrive automatic and convert to a Dana 60 front axle with disc brakes.

2 builders make a complete chassis for the 1967–72 F-100 / F-250 4x4. Compare them side by side, along with what it takes to stiffen the factory frame.

How it ended

The listing ended on Oct 20, 2026 with the car at $9,500. We don't know yet whether it sold.
