Why we picked it

This black-over-black 1969 Camaro convertible is listed on eBay at a $34,500 Buy It Now. It has a 350 V8 that the seller describes as "Nom", which usually means not the original motor, backed by a 3-speed manual. It also has a center console, power disc brakes, power steering, a power top the seller says goes up and down perfectly, dual exhaust and Torque Thrust wheels on new tires. The seller says the body panels are original and the frame rails are rust-free, and lists a new gas tank, Edelbrock carburetor, HEI ignition, aluminum radiator, starter and dash pad. He rates the paint a 7 out of 10, driver quality.

First-generation Camaro convertibles are the most wanted body style of the three years, and driver-level cars have been selling for roughly $39,000 to $58,000 this summer. A non-original engine keeps this one out of collector territory, but for someone who wants to drive it or build it into a pro-touring convertible, the price leaves room.

The value check

The seller is asking $34,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $38,750–$58,000, so the middle of the market is about $48,375. That put this car 29% under.

Driver-level 1969 Camaro convertibles sold for $38,750 (modified, automatic, Bring a Trailer) and $58,000 (modified, manual, Hagerty) in July 2026; an original car brought $79,200 at Mecum in August. At $34,500 this one is about 28% under the driver-level midpoint.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • No VIN is listed; ask for the VIN and cowl tag and confirm it is a real convertible (VIN starting 124679)
  • Connecticut does not title cars this old; the seller has registration paperwork, not a title, so check what your state needs to title it
  • $500 non-refundable deposit and full payment within 3 days; the seller can end the listing early because the car is also for sale locally
  • Convertibles rust in the floor pans, trunk floor, rear frame rails and the top well; ask for underside photos or an inspection
  • "Nom" 350: ask what engine it is and its condition
  • Mileage field is a placeholder; true mileage is unknown

Making it drive like new

A first-gen convertible is a natural pro-touring base. A subframe and rear suspension package (or a complete chassis from our comparison page), frame connectors to stiffen the open body, an overdrive five- or six-speed in place of the 3-speed, and bigger brakes would transform how it drives.

9 builders make a complete chassis for the 1967–69 First-gen Camaro & Firebird. Compare them side by side, along with what it takes to stiffen the factory frame.
