Rare Dodge built only about 118 Hemi Chargers for 1967. This car's VIN, XP29J72156665, carries the J engine code used for the 426 Hemi that year, and the seller says it is a factory 4-speed car (he cites 1 of 58).

Why we picked it

This 1967 Charger is a roller from American Steel Classics in Celeste, Texas. The seller says it is a real J-code 426 Hemi, 4-speed car, originally RR1 yellow with a black interior, and that the original VIN, fender tag and body stamps are intact. There is no engine or transmission, but the original Dana 60 rear is still under it, and the original Inland shifter and a reproduction Hemi K-member come with the car. The seller calls the body extremely solid, says most of the trim and interior are present, and reports a clean title.

Why we picked it: 1967 was the Charger's second year, and only about 118 were built with the 426 Hemi. Complete examples of the early Hemi fastback have sold between roughly $54,000 and $107,000 in the past year, while this documented body is listed at $37,500. You will need to source a date-correct Hemi and 4-speed for a factory-style restoration, or treat it as an honest base for a Hemi-powered restomod that keeps the original numbers and paperwork with the car.

The value check

The seller is asking $37,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $53,900–$107,000, so the middle of the market is about $80,450. That put this car 53% under.

Complete, original-type 1966-67 Hemi Chargers have sold for about $53,900 (Mecum, Jan 2026) to $107,000 (BaT, May 2026). This car has no engine or transmission, so it is not directly comparable; we picked it for rarity, not for a percentage discount.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • No engine or transmission: budget for a date-correct 426 Hemi and A833 4-speed, or a modern drivetrain
  • Decode the fender tag and VIN in person and confirm the J code and 4-speed options before paying
  • Check the trunk floor, rear quarters behind the wheels, lower fenders and the rear window channel for rust under paint
  • Fastback rear glass, hidden-headlamp parts and the electroluminescent gauge cluster are costly to replace if missing
  • The odometer is listed as 0; ask for photos of the underside and the included parts

Making it drive like new

As a restomod, keep the Dana 60 and the original sheet metal, then fit a modern Gen III Hemi or a crate 426 with EFI, a 5- or 6-speed manual, tubular front control arms with coilovers in place of the torsion bars, and four-wheel disc brakes. Store the VIN-matched parts so the car can return to stock.
