Why we picked it

Why we picked it: This 1957 Bel Air Sport Coupe has most of a serious pro-touring build already done. The dealer lists a ProCharger-supercharged 502 big-block with an intercooler and Holley Terminator X fuel injection, a 4L80E overdrive automatic, a narrowed Ford 9-inch with limited slip, adjustable coil-overs at all four corners, tubular front arms, rack-and-pinion steering and a triangulated four-link. Inside are power Recaro seats in gray leather, Vintage Air, power windows, cruise control and Classic Instruments gauges. Service records and two sets of keys come with it.

At $39,500 it is priced in line with recent sales of ordinary modified '57 hardtops, which have been going for about $31,500 to $40,500. Hardtops with real modern suspension and brake work have sold for $62,700 to $71,500 at Mecum this fall, so the parts and labor alone make this one worth a close look.

The value check

The seller is asking $39,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $62,700–$71,500, so the middle of the market is about $67,100. That put this car 41% under.

Two modified 1957 Bel Air hardtops with modern suspension, brakes and A/C sold at Mecum Nashville in September 2026 for $62,700 and $71,500; a fully built LS/5-speed 1955 hardtop brought $90,950 on Hagerty in October. At $39,500 this car is about 41% under the $67,100 midpoint, and priced at what plain modified driver hardtops have been bringing.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • The tires carry 2003 date codes; budget for new rubber before driving it hard
  • Rear brakes are still drums behind a lot of supercharged big-block power; plan on a rear disc kit
  • Title status is not stated and mileage is listed as true mileage unknown; confirm a clean California title
  • Check floors, trunk pan, lower quarters and the rear of the front fenders, the usual Tri-Five rust spots
  • Have a tuner review the Terminator X setup and boost level, and check frame mounts and the 4-link brackets for cracks
  • The paint is described as blue and silver while the specs say teal; look at it in person or ask for more photos

Making it drive like new

Most of the hard work is done. The main items left are a rear disc brake conversion (or a full big-brake kit, given the power), fresh tires, a careful look at cooling for a blown big-block in traffic, and possibly frame boxing or subframe connectors if the X-frame has not been reinforced.
