1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary, numbered 2,838 of about 3,000, bidding at $8,750
A numbered Hurst/Olds at well under half of recent sales, but bids will climb and the cluster needs work.
1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds
Why we picked it
This black-and-silver 1983 Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary car has the 307 V8, an automatic with the Hurst Lightning Rods triple-stick shifter, sunroof, A/C, cruise, tilt and power windows. The seller says it is number 2,838 of about 3,000 built, has no dents and wears a clean Oklahoma title. A CARFAX starting in 1994 shows Michigan, Maryland and Oklahoma registrations, and the original radio comes with it. The odometer shows 88,550 miles, but the listing marks it TMU (true mileage unknown).
Bidding sat at $8,750 after 13 bids on Oct 28, and the auction runs until Nov 4. Recent sales of lower-mile cars brought $18,700 to $24,250, so there is plenty of room even after you allow for the miles and the faults the seller lists: a dead fuel gauge, instrument cluster problems and a worn driver door seal. Bids usually climb in the last day, so set your limit now and stick to it.
The value check
The current bid is $10,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $18,700–$24,250, so the middle of the market is about $21,475. That put this car 51% under. Bids usually climb in the final hours, so the discount will likely shrink.
Four recent 1983 Hurst/Olds auction sales on classic.com ran $18,700 to $24,250 (Mecum Kissimmee Jan 2026, GAA Apr 2026, Mecum Indy May 2026, BaT Oct 2025), all with 40k-63k miles. This car has more miles and some gauge faults, so expect it to land below that range, but the $8,750 bid is about 59% under the $21,475 midpoint with a week left.

What to check
- Mileage is marked TMU, so price it as a high-mile car
- Fuel gauge does not work and the cluster has issues; G-body cluster and sender faults are common but take time to sort out
- Check the rear window channel, the lower quarters behind the wheels and the trunk floor for rust, which are the usual G-body problem areas
- Make sure the Lightning Rods shifter works through all three levers and the 200-4R shifts cleanly; check the TV cable adjustment
- The listing says all original but also lists tint and a later GM CD head unit, so look closely at what else has been changed
- Confirm the Hurst/Olds VIN, the 15th Anniversary decals and the numbered plaque match
Making it drive like new
A Hurst/Olds is worth keeping close to stock, so stick to changes you can undo. Swap the tired 307 for a 350 Olds or a crate small-block, and fit a rebuilt 200-4R with a correct TV cable. Add boxed lower control arms, a rear sway bar, modern gas shocks and a G-body frame-stiffening kit to sharpen the handling. Keep the factory cluster but rebuild it with a new fuel sender.
