1977 Jeep CJ-7 V8 manual with off-road upgrades at $12,750
V8, manual, 4x4 CJ-7 well under recent sales; needs an in-person check since the listing is thin.
1977 Jeep CJ-7
Why we picked it
Why we picked it: early CJ-7s with a V8 and a manual are the ones people want, and this 1977 has both, plus four-wheel drive, front disc brakes, power steering and an Edelbrock four-barrel. It comes with a tan soft top and half doors, a family-style roll cage, a swing-away spare carrier, rock guards and Super Swamper tires. The dealer says it is mechanically sound.
Beverly Hills Car Club has cut the price from $14,750 to $12,750. Comparable modified V8 CJ-7s have sold for about $16,900 to $27,000 over the last two years, so even with some work needed this is priced low.
The value check
The seller is asking $12,750. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $16,853–$27,018, so the middle of the market is about $21,935.50. That put this car 42% under.
Modified V8 CJ-7 drivers have sold on Hagerty Marketplace for $16,853 (1979, 304/4-speed, some rust, Jul 2026), $22,000 (1978, 360/auto, Feb 2025) and $27,018 (1978, 304/3-speed, Mar 2026). At $12,750 (reduced from $14,750) this one is about 42% under the $21,935 midpoint.

- 1978 CJ-7 360/auto, sold $22,000 Hagerty (Feb 2025)

What to check
- Beverly Hills Car Club does not list mileage, title status or rust details, and sells as-is with no warranty. Confirm the title and condition in person or with a pre-purchase inspection.
- The engine size is not stated; a 1977 V8 CJ-7 would usually have the AMC 304. Verify what is in it.
- Check the frame near the rear spring hangers and the steering box mount for cracks and rust, plus floor pans and the tub under the seats.
- Look for leaks from the Dana 20 transfer case and the AMC 20 rear axle, which is the weak point behind a V8.
- Big tires on stock steering and brakes wear parts quickly; check ball joints, steering box and brake condition.
Making it drive like new
Keep the V8 but add fuel injection and an electronic ignition, frame stiffening plates and a steering box brace, and a stronger rear axle (Dana 44 swap or a one-piece-axle kit for the AMC 20). Upgraded brakes, a modern roll cage with three-point belts, and a quality spring or coilover kit will make it safe and comfortable.
