1970 Dodge Challenger T/A unrestored survivor with its numbers-matching 340 Six Pack and broadcast sheet
An unrestored, numbers-matching T/A from a private seller, priced near the market.
1970 Dodge Challenger T/A
Rare The T/A was a 1970-only Trans-Am homologation model of about 2,400 cars, and unrestored examples with their original drivetrain are a small part of that number.
Why we picked it
A private seller has this 1970 T/A (VIN JH23J0B305559) listed for $85,000 or best offer. The seller says it is an unrestored survivor with the 340 Six Pack block original to the car, a 727 automatic, and blue paint over a blue cloth interior. The broadcast sheet, fender tag and door VIN sticker are all still with the car. The seller also says it has been garaged all its life and never in an accident.
It was sold once before at 45,000 miles and now shows 49,000. The seller says the transmission has been serviced, the mounts replaced and the valve cover gaskets renewed. The price is about the same as similar automatic T/As sold this summer. We picked it for its rarity and originality, since unrestored T/As are much harder to find than restored ones.
The value check
The seller is asking $75,000. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $85,930–$93,500, so the middle of the market is about $89,715. That put this car 16% under.
Two original automatic T/As with similar mileage sold in summer 2026: one with 65k miles for $85,930 on BaT and one with 59k miles for $93,500 at Barrett-Jackson. Low-mileage and 4-speed cars brought $150,000 to $200,000. The $85,000 OBO asking price is about 5% under the midpoint of the comparable range.
What to check
- Have a Mopar specialist inspect it: E-body rust shows up in the lower quarters, trunk drop-offs, rear frame rails, cowl and floor pans
- Check that the broadcast sheet and fender tag match the VIN, the color and the options
- Read the block's partial VIN stamp and check the Six Pack carbs and intake for correct T/A part numbers
- Find out where and when it was last sold, and get those records and photos
- Look for the T/A-only parts: the fiberglass hood, ducktail spoiler, side-exit exhaust and staggered tires
