1986–92 Toyota Supra Mk III (A70) chassis
This car is a unibody, so there's no separate frame to replace. The way to modernize it is to upgrade the original suspension, stiffen the body shell and fix the known weak spots.
Upgrade the original chassis
- How it's built
- Steel unibody
- Front suspension
- Double wishbone suspension with coil springs and an anti-roll bar. Power rack-and-pinion steering.
- Rear suspension
- Double wishbone independent rear suspension with the differential mounted to a rear subframe. Some models had a limited-slip differential, and some had TEMS electronically adjustable dampers.
- Weak spots
- Rust shows up in the rear wheel arches, rocker panels, lower doors and around the targa roof seals. Lower ball joints are a known failure point, and the rubber subframe, differential and arm bushings are usually tired.
Stiffening the body or frame? We list 2 kits for this car, such as frame rails, subframe connectors and braces, on its Chassis stiffening page.
