1991–2005 Acura NSX, first generation chassis
This car is a unibody, so there's no separate frame to replace. The way to modernize it is to upgrade the original suspension, stiffen the body shell and fix the known weak spots.
Upgrade the original chassis
- How it's built
- Aluminum unibody (monocoque)
- Front suspension
- Double wishbone suspension with forged aluminum arms, coil-over dampers and a compliance pivot. Rack-and-pinion steering, power assisted on automatics and later cars.
- Rear suspension
- Double wishbone independent rear suspension with forged aluminum arms and rubber-bushed toe links. The differential is part of the mid-mounted transaxle.
- Weak spots
- The aluminum body does not rust like steel, but accident repairs are specialist work and corrosion can occur where steel fasteners meet aluminum. Rubber compliance bushings and the rear toe links allow toe change under braking and cornering, and original dampers and top-mount bushings are usually worn.
Stiffening the body or frame? We list 1 kit for this car, such as frame rails, subframe connectors and braces, on its Chassis stiffening page.
