1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 4x4 that runs strong, priced well below rough driver sales
A running 360 Grand Wagoneer with cosmetic damage, about a third under recent rough-driver sales.
Why we picked it
Why we picked it: the seller says this 1987 Grand Wagoneer has about 76,000 miles and runs strong with no smoke. It has the 360 V8, automatic, 4x4, power windows, power steering and brakes, and A/C. The seller describes the interior, headliner and visors as nice, and a new woodgrain kit comes with it.
It does need work: the seller lists fender damage from a minor accident, a cracked lower windshield, a dented grille corner and a missing bumper pad, and says it needs some TLC. Even with that work added, $13,495 is well below the $18,750 to $22,350 that high-mile, imperfect Grand Wagoneers have brought at auction in the last month.
The value check
The seller is asking $13,495. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $18,750–$22,350, so the middle of the market is about $20,550. That put this car 34% under.
Three recent driver-quality Grand Wagoneer sales with high miles or some flaws brought $18,750 to $22,350 (BaT and Hagerty, Sep-Oct 2026), midpoint $20,550. Cleaner examples sell for $25,000 to $50,000 and were not used.
- 1989 Grand Wagoneer, 120k miles, EFI conversion, lifted, BaT $18,750 (Sep 2026)
- 1988 Grand Wagoneer, 111k miles, original, BaT $20,000 (Oct 2026)
- 1989 Grand Wagoneer, 161k miles, older repaint, Hagerty $22,350 (Oct 2026)
What to check
- The VIN on the listing (0000000000JJB3687) is a placeholder; get the real 17-digit VIN and confirm a clean title before going further.
- The listing says the Jeep is at a client's home, not in Cadillac, MI; the seller asks buyers to call ahead (231-468-2809 ext. 1).
- The seller says it has throttle-body injection, but 1987 Grand Wagoneers left the factory with a carbureted 360, so ask whether an aftermarket EFI system was fitted.
- SJ Wagoneers rust at the rear quarters above the wheel openings, the tailgate, rocker panels, floors and the front fender bottoms; check them along with the frame near the rear spring hangers.
- Check the accident damage under the fender for bent supports or radiator support damage.
Making it drive like new
A Grand Wagoneer responds well to a few drivetrain updates: an aftermarket EFI system on the AMC 360 (if it is not already done), an AW4 or 4L60E overdrive automatic conversion, a front disc brake refresh with new lines, and modern gas shocks with new leaf spring bushings. Inside, keep the original look but add a modern A/C compressor and LED lighting. Replace the damaged fender and windshield while the new woodgrain goes on.
