Driver1970 International Scout 800A 4x4 with a 304 V8 and automatic, priced at $19,950
V8 automatic Scout 800A from a Texas dealer, priced below most modified 800 sales. Inspect it before you commit.
Why we picked it
Street Dreams Texas has this 1970 Scout listed at $19,950. It has the IH 304 V8, an automatic and four-wheel drive. The seller mentions full instrumentation, dual exhaust, diamond-pattern upholstery, the optional rear seat, and 235/75R15 tires on steel wheels. The V8 and automatic make it easier to live with than the four-cylinder, three-speed trucks that make up much of the Scout 800 market.
Modified Scout 800s in driver condition have mostly sold between the mid-teens and the mid-$30,000s this year. The price leaves room for the rust repair and steering work most early Scouts need. It has been listed since July, so there may also be room to negotiate.
The value check
The seller is asking $19,950. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $16,500–$34,500, so the middle of the market is about $25,500. That put this car 22% under.
Driver-grade modified Scout 800s sold for about $16,500-$34,500 on BaT between May and August 2026. $19,950 is about 22% under the midpoint; well-sorted examples often bring more.

What to check
- The listing doesn't mention rust or title status: ask for underside photos or an inspection, and confirm the title before you pay a deposit
- Scout 800 rust spots: rocker panels, floor pans, the rear wheel arches and quarters, the tailgate, and the cowl and windshield frame
- Check the frame where the rear spring hangers mount and at the rear crossmember
- The steering is slow and vague, and the Dana 44 front axle's knuckles and U-joints often need a rebuild
- The mileage figure on the listing is a placeholder, so treat the mileage as unknown
Making it drive like new
Most Scout 800 builds start with front disc brakes and a dual master cylinder, a power steering conversion, and new springs and shocks. Fuel injection on the 304 and a seat-belt and roll-bar upgrade make it a safer, more reliable weekend truck without losing the original character.
