1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham: one of 400 built, offered as a restoration project

A real 400-built Brougham for the price of a tired Series 62, but plan for a very costly restoration.

Rare Cadillac built only 400 Eldorado Broughams for 1957. The hand-assembled pillarless sedan had a stainless steel roof and rear-hinged doors, and it cost more new than a Rolls-Royce.

Why we picked it

Why we picked it: Beverly Hills Car Club lists this 1957 Eldorado Brougham as a full restoration project for $17,500, cut from $19,750. The dealer says it is factory Ebony Black (code 110) with a light blue Cardiff cloth interior, the 365 V8, an automatic, the stainless steel roof panel, rear-hinged doors and the Autronic Eye. Cadillac built only 400 of these in 1957.

Complete, presentable Broughams have recently sold for $92,000 to $104,500, and the best restored cars pass $200,000. Restoring one costs far more than a regular 1957 Cadillac because so many Brougham parts were unique to the car. Even so, this is about the cheapest way into one of the rarest postwar American luxury cars. Ask for the VIN and confirm it is a genuine Series 70 car before you do anything else.

The value check

The seller is asking $17,500. Comparable cars in the same condition have sold for $92,000–$104,500, so the middle of the market is about $98,250. That put this car 82% under.

Complete, presentable 1957 Broughams sold for $92,000 (BaT, May 2026) and $104,500 (Mecum, Sep 2026), and a fully restored car brought $207,200 at RM Hershey in Oct 2026. We found no recent project-grade sales, so these comps are for better cars. We list this one as a rare find, not as a percentage discount.

Where the numbers come from:

What to check

  • The listing gives no mileage, title status, running condition or rust report. Confirm the title, the as-is terms and the car's condition in person or with an inspection.
  • Confirm the VIN is a genuine 1957 Series 70 Brougham (5770...) and not a converted Series 62.
  • Check completeness carefully. Brougham trim, the stainless roof, the interior pieces and the vanity accessories are unique and very expensive to find.
  • Most original air-suspension systems have failed or been converted to coil springs. Find out what this car has.
  • Inspect the floors, rockers, trunk pan and the lower rear quarters behind the wheels for rust.

Making it drive like new

Most Brougham buyers restore to original, and that protects the value. If you want better drivability without changing the car's character, add a coil-spring conversion that keeps the air suspension parts for reinstallation, front disc brakes behind the original wheels, and modern cooling and electronic ignition on the 365.
